Yallo: UX End-to-End
Completed as a hackathon project, Yallo is designed to help parents and their children manage money, while also teaching them about finance.
As the UX Designer on the team, I was responsible for all research about the appearance of the app, market research, wireframing, and prototyping.
Both the parent and child flows were mapped out and turned into prototypes.

Research
I looked up multiple existing parent-child finance apps to learn what features they were offering and to see hat the standard UX practices were.
I also conducted in-person interviews with people who have children and asked them how they would feel about an app like Yallo. Common themes in these interviews were: cost of the app, kids having phones with internet access, and a focus on what the child is learning.

Flows
As a team, we worked through what flows were needed for both the parent and the child.
Parent would have access to their children’s accounts, see their spending habits, set up allowances, and send money.
Children would be able to see their available money, track their spending, request money from their parents, and earn interest on money saved.

Wireframes & Prototype
Once the wireframes were created in Sketch, they were turned into a prototype in InVision. This prototype was shown to parent-child pairings and feedback was collected. A usability test was run using the prototype.
Mock-ups were not created as the developers were using a design system, allowing them to establish a coherent appearance as they coded. Additionally, the nature of a hackathon meant there was limited time.

Implementation
A logo was designed for use in implementation. The logo needed to work in the app, but also as an app icon on the user’s phone home screen.
A team member and their child (who was pulled out of school!) walked through their respective sides of the app on presentation day, presenting a real use case for the app.
Yallo won Best in City and came in the top 3 for the category of Retail Banking out of 235 projects.
